What are you doing for the holidays?
…I mean that writer-wise and personally.
I haven’t even looked at my NaNoWriMo project since that fateful moment on 30 November when I collapsed at the finish line. So, once the rush of Christmas is over, that will probably be the first thing I pick up…I’ll need a good laugh by then, and reading my November speed-writing should provide that.
Then, there’s the Brian Moore competition to work on. On one hand, I don’t really feel like it (there’s another project tugging at me) but on the other hand, I hate to miss the GOOD competitions, like Bridport, RTE awards, and others: ones that offer a good challenge without asking for a week’s salary in reading fees.
The FIRST writing thing I have to do however, starting tonight, is CHRISTMAS CARDS and solstice cards too. How did I forget that??
What’s everyone else working on in these dark days? Or are you taking time off? Any good writer-related holiday events to share news about?

Since I’m flying back to France and seeing my family, whom I haven’t seen in a year, that’d be quite rude of me to lock myself in a room with my laptop and type my novel. I’ll still take my notebook and jot down some ideas in case the muse shows up, but most of the time, I won’t do any writing-related stuff.
Oh good, I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t done anything with their NaNo novel.
Well, I did write about 300 words on the 2nd. But it’s been definitely on the back burner. All my fancy pledges to keep going have just faded into nothing (as usual, alas).
I did manage to write a hundred words or so of a short story while sat at Cardiff airport this past Monday – I’d run out of book-to-read. I was quite pleased that my brain actually functioned enough at 6:30am for me to write!
However, I would like to get something done in my ten days off over Christmas. I’d even like to finish this short story some time this weekend, and polish up an old one which might be decent enough to use… We shall see.
I’m hoping to write a short story over Christmas for the Brian Moore competition. I have an idea what it’s about, I just need to write it.
After that I intend to eat, drink and be merry.
I have done nothing with my NaNo novel – I haven’t even looked at it though I really do intend to finish it. It’s just taking a back seat at the moment as I have another project demanding my attention. Am working on a huge series of short stories all based in the same world but over thousands of years – it gives me leeway to do whatever I want, from fantasy to science-fiction, and I will be meshing magic with machines for a lot of it.
Just planning stages at the moment though. I do hope to have the first story written by Sunday as I need a piece of work for Taleweavers but so far I am not ready to write.
Ideally I’d like to enter one of the short stories planned in the Brian Moore competition but I do feel as if my work isn’t really that suited to it and not sure anything will be short enough.
